Year round students attracted by the low
cost of ultralight flying come from all parts of the world to train for
the ultralight pilot permit and to realize the dream of flight.
Airsport
Aviation instructs on two-place training aircraft
and all of our instructors are Transport Canada certified. Our safety
and service are second to none. The training for the non-pilot requires
a minimum of 10 hours of flight instruction, depending upon individual
ability. For the current pilot, approximately five hours of individual
instruction is required (scheduling of flight training is subject to weather
conditions).
Pilot
Permit - Ultralight Aeroplanes
Ultralight flying is grassroots aviation at its best. The Pilot Permit
for Ultralight Aeroplanes is one of the easiest, lowest cost and most
fun licenses to obtain. Ultralight aircraft have become safe and sophisticated
to the point of offering pleasure pilots all the low-risk adventure their
imaginations can conjure. Equipped with wheels, floats or skis, ultralight
aircraft offer pilots the best freedoms in flying.
Ultralight student pilots must be at least
14-years-old to fly solo and need to meet certain self-declared medical
standards. A minimum of 10 hours of flying training is required on ultralights,
including at least two hours solo and 30 takeoffs and landings (10 solo).
An approved ground school course is required. There is a written examination
and a flight test. Final permit applicants must be at least 16-years-old.
The Ultralight Permit is valid in Canada
only, for day flying, in good weather, without passengers. These requirements
are reduced if the applicant has held a Private Pilot License - Airplane
within the preceding five years.
Flight Instructor
Rating - Ultralight
The only commercial application for ultralight pilots is flight
training and demonstration. The Commercial Ultralight Pilot License has
been replaced in the Canadian Aviation Regulations with the Flight Instructor
Rating - Ultralight Airplane.
Applicants must be at least 18-years-old,
hold a Category three (3) Medical Certificate, complete at least 10 hours
of training in instructional techniques, pass a written examination on
Flight Instructor Rating Instructional Techniques and have flown a minimum
of 50 hours in ultralight airplanes within the preceding 24 months including
five hours dual flight time on instructional techniques. There is no flight
test but applicants require a letter of competency from a flight instructor.
Pilot Permit
- Powered Parachute
For the issue of a Pilot Permit - Ultralight Airplane restricted to powered
parachutes, the student requires total flying time of five (5) hours.
